Basics 30° specular reflectance accessory is useful
for non-destructive analysis of anything that will not transmit
infrared energy. Typical applications are analysis of films
and coatings and measurement of the thickness of free standing
films with known refractive indices by fringe pattern analysis.
The accessory is mounted on the standard universal 2
x 3 slide mount of any FTIR instrument.
The mirrors of the accessory direct the infrared beam at
the sample at an angle of incidence of 30 degrees. Mirrors
are first surface coated with aluminum. The sample is placed
face down on the sample stage at the top of the accessory
for analysis. A set of three masks with small apertures
is provided for use with small samples. A gold coated alignment
mirror is provided to enable you to take background scans
and for alignment of the mirrors to optimize energy throughput.
high energy HATR is equipped with a 45° specular reflection
stage, making this versatile unit useful for double duty
as a specular reflection accessory.
